About SNAKES

Each level of SNAKES hands you a grid with open squares and a few colorful snakes already sitting on it. Your job is to move those snakes so that, between them, they cover every empty square. A level counts as finished only when no gap is left anywhere on the board, so a single uncovered square means the layout is not solved yet.

The levels are handcrafted rather than generated, and their layouts become trickier the further you go, asking for more thought about which snake belongs where. Presentation stays minimal, with a clean art style, clear visuals and amusing background music, so nothing pulls attention away from the board. You can work through the puzzles at your own pace, though the game also suggests racing friends to see who clears them first.

How to play SNAKES

Objective

Move the snakes on each grid until every empty square has been covered, which completes the level and lets you continue to the next, trickier layout.

Getting started

  1. Look over the first grid and spot every empty square, since all of them have to be covered before the level ends.
  2. Note how many snakes sit on the board and where each one starts, because they all share the same grid.
  3. Move one snake at a time into the open squares, keeping an eye on the gaps it leaves behind for the others.
  4. Cover the final empty square to finish the level, then carry on to the next handcrafted layout, which will be a little harder.

Tips

  • Fill awkward corners and narrow dead ends early, because a snake that leaves one of those squares open may have no way back to it later.
  • With several snakes on one board, decide which snake owns each region of the grid before moving any of them, so two snakes never fight over the same gap.
  • There is no rush to finish, so on later layouts trace a complete plan in your head first instead of moving quickly and untangling a crowded board afterward.

SNAKES FAQ

When is a level in SNAKES complete?

A level is complete once every empty square on the grid has been covered by the snakes. Leaving even one square open means the puzzle is not solved yet, so you keep moving the snakes until the whole board is filled.

Do the SNAKES puzzles get harder over time?

Yes. The levels are handcrafted, and their layouts grow trickier as you advance, so later grids ask for more planning about which snake should fill which part of the board before you commit to a move.

Can SNAKES be played as a race against friends?

It can. The game suggests competing with friends to see who solves the puzzles faster, but you are just as welcome to work through the levels alone at whatever speed suits you, with the background music for company.
