About Classic Number Puzzle

Classic Number Puzzle is the familiar sliding tile puzzle: a grid of numbered tiles with one empty space, and the goal of putting every number back in ascending order. Tiles can only move into the gap, one at a time, so each move shifts a single number and opens a new space somewhere else on the board.

The rules take seconds to learn, but solving the puzzle efficiently is another matter. Two things count at once, the number of moves and the time you take, and the aim is to keep both as low as possible. That turns a simple tidy-up into a planning exercise, because careless slides waste moves that have to be undone later. It is a quiet, maths-flavoured logic puzzle that rewards patience and a little foresight more than raw speed, though speed matters too once you know how to finish a board.

How to play Classic Number Puzzle

Objective

Slide the numbered tiles through the empty space until all the numbers sit in ascending order, using as few moves and as little time as possible.

Controls

Mobile

  • Tap the empty space: slide the neighbouring tile into it

Getting started

  1. Look at the scrambled board and find where the empty space sits and which tiles are next to it.
  2. Tap the empty space to slide a neighbouring numbered tile into the gap.
  3. Begin by moving the smallest numbers toward their places in the first row, one slide at a time.
  4. Work row by row, keeping finished numbers in place while you bring the following ones into position.
  5. Finish with every number in ascending order, then play again to beat your move count and time.

Tips

  • Settle the first row before anything else, then leave it alone; disturbing finished tiles costs extra moves, and moves are what you are trying to keep low.
  • Plan a few slides ahead before tapping, since every move counts toward the total and a wasted slide often needs another to undo it.
  • Once you know how to finish a board, push for speed as well, because the challenge asks for the shortest time as well as the fewest moves.
  • Watch where the gap ends up after each slide; keeping it near the tiles you still need to place saves long detours around the board.

Classic Number Puzzle FAQ

How do you move tiles in Classic Number Puzzle?

Tap the empty space and a numbered tile next to it slides in. Only tiles beside the gap can move, and they move one at a time, so the order of your slides decides how quickly the numbers fall into place.

What order do the numbers need to be in?

Ascending order, from the smallest number to the largest. The puzzle is solved once every tile sits in its correct place, and the goal is to get there with as few moves and as little time as you can manage.

Is Classic Number Puzzle hard?

It is easy to learn but hard to master. The rule is just to slide tiles into the empty space, yet solving efficiently takes planning, especially when you try to cut down both your move count and your time.
