About 4 Clues 1 Word
4 Clues 1 Word is a picture-based word puzzle about double meanings. A level puts three or four photographs on the screen, and they rarely show the same kind of thing: one may be an object, another an idea, a third someone doing something. The answer is a single word that can describe every one of them, usually because it carries several senses. Stock is the classic case, fitting shares on a market, a pot of broth and goods in a warehouse at once.
When you have the word, you build it from a set of letter tiles. Two hints help on stubborn levels: one exposes a correct letter, and the other clears away tiles the answer does not use. Levels carry difficulty labels from Casual up to Mind-Bending, there are hundreds of them, and the links between pictures turn more abstract the deeper you get.

How to play 4 Clues 1 Word
Objective
Find the one word that applies to every image in the level and spell it with the letter tiles, then keep going through hundreds of increasingly abstract levels.
Controls
Desktop
- Click a letter tile: add that letter to your answer
Mobile
- Tap a letter tile: add that letter to your answer
Getting started
- Look over the three or four photos and decide what each could stand for: a thing, a concept or an action.
- Think of every meaning each picture suggests, then search for one word that turns up in all of those lists.
- Click or tap the letter tiles in order to spell that word; the available tiles also limit which letters it can contain.
- If a Hard level will not give, use a hint to reveal one correct letter or to strip out tiles that are not needed.
- Clear the level and continue; later puzzles lean on more abstract links, so expect answers to become less obvious.
Tips
- Say what each picture shows out loud, since hearing a word can bring out a second meaning that looking alone misses.
- On long answers, try the tile-removal hint before the letter hint; fewer tiles leaves a much shorter list of possible words.
- Consider idioms and verbs as well as nouns, because one image may show an action rather than an object.
- Answers like Draft, which can mean a chilly gust of air or a first sketch, are the model: favour words with several unrelated senses.

4 Clues 1 Word FAQ
What do the hints do in 4 Clues 1 Word?
There are two. One exposes a single correct letter of the answer, and the other removes letter tiles that are not part of the solution. Both are most useful on harder levels, where the link between the pictures is less literal.
How many pictures does each level show?
Each level shows three or four photographs. They can mix a physical object, an abstract concept and an action, and the correct word is whichever one fits every image, usually because it carries more than one meaning.
Can 4 Clues 1 Word be played on a phone?
Yes. The answer is entered by selecting letter tiles, which you tap on a phone or click on a computer, so the puzzle works the same way on either. No typing is needed beyond picking tiles.
