About Match Mystery

Match Mystery is dressed as a lost jungle temple. The title screen sets MATCH MYSTERY in carved white letters over green stone glyphs, with a green gem play button, a HIGHSCORE counter and a bubbling cauldron flanked by skulls. The board is a six-by-six grid of square stone tiles stamped with symbols: orange eyes, green leaves, blue eyes, red masks and green faces. SCORE, HIGHSCORE and TIME run down the top, with a sound button and a home button in the upper corners and a round arrow button in the lower left.

The clock is the main pressure. The first board opens with TIME at just 5 and counts down second by second, and when it reaches zero a TIMEOUT screen shows YOUR SCORE and HIGHSCORE with the gem button to go again. With so few seconds on the clock, finding the first match quickly is everything. The game's description speaks of a storyline and ever harder levels; the screens themselves show a straight score chase against the timer.

How to play Match Mystery

Objective

Line up matching symbols on the stone board as fast as possible, score before TIME reaches zero and beat the HIGHSCORE shown on the title screen.

Controls

Mobile

  • Tap the green gem button: start a round, or play again after TIMEOUT
  • Home button (top right): return to the title screen
  • Sound button: switch the audio

Getting started

  1. Hold the phone upright; the temple title screen shows MATCH MYSTERY, a HIGHSCORE of 0 and a green gem play button.
  2. Tap the gem button and be ready at once, because the board opens with TIME at 5 and it starts falling immediately.
  3. Scan the six-by-six grid for three matching symbols in a line, such as three green leaves or three blue eyes.
  4. Keep matching while watching TIME under the score; when it reaches zero the TIMEOUT screen takes over.
  5. On TIMEOUT, compare YOUR SCORE with HIGHSCORE, then tap the gem button to try again.

Tips

  • The clock opens at only 5, so spot your first match the instant the board appears instead of studying the whole grid.
  • Green leaves and blue eyes fill many squares on the opening board, so they are usually the quickest symbols to line up.
  • HIGHSCORE is shown both on the title screen and above the board, so the number to beat is always in view while the timer runs.
  • Keep your thumb near the middle of the board during a round; the home button sits in the top-right corner, and a stray tap there leaves the game.

Match Mystery FAQ

Why does a Match Mystery round end so fast?

Rounds run against a clock that starts at only 5 on the first board. When TIME reaches zero a TIMEOUT screen shows your score and the high score, so make the first matches as quickly as you can.

Which symbols appear on the Match Mystery board?

The square stone tiles carry orange eyes, green leaves, blue eyes, red masks and green faces. Lining up matching symbols is how you score on the six-by-six grid.

Is there a story in Match Mystery?

The game's description talks about a storyline that unfolds as you play, but the title screen, board and TIMEOUT screen show only a score chase against the clock, with no story scenes in between.
