About Backgammon
Backgammon is the classic two-player race of dice and strategy, brought to the screen. Every turn opens with a dice roll, and the result decides how far your pieces can travel. Both sides are heading for the same finish: the first player to take every one of their chips off the board wins the game.
What keeps it interesting is the balance between chance and planning. A single roll can help or hurt, but over a whole game strategy carries much more weight than luck, so the player who thinks ahead about which pieces to move, and when, tends to come out on top. Matches reward a long-term approach rather than chasing the best possible result from each individual roll, which is why the game has lasted as long as it has.

How to play Backgammon
Objective
Use each dice roll to move your pieces and be the first player to remove all of your chips from the board before your opponent manages it.
Getting started
- Start your turn by rolling the dice; the result sets how far you are allowed to move your pieces.
- Choose which pieces to move with that roll, thinking about the whole board rather than only the most convenient piece.
- Keep advancing your pieces turn by turn as the dice allow, while your opponent races in the same direction.
- Begin removing your chips from the board as soon as you can, since the first player to clear all of them wins.
Tips
- Plan for the long game: one lucky or unlucky roll matters less than a consistent strategy kept up across the full match.
- Before moving, consider how your choice will affect the next few turns, since thinking ahead counts for more than any single roll.
- Do not judge a match by its opening rolls; strategy matters more over a whole game, and a patient plan can overturn an early deficit.

Backgammon FAQ
How do you win at Backgammon?
Be the first to remove all of your chips from the board. Each turn you roll the dice and move your pieces by the result, racing your opponent to clear the board first.
Is Backgammon mostly luck?
No. The dice decide how far you move on each turn, so luck plays a part, but over a full game strategy has the bigger role, and planning ahead is what wins matches.
How many players does a game of Backgammon need?
Two. You and one rival take turns rolling the dice and moving pieces, each trying to bear every chip off the board first. It can be played online for free on your own device.
