About Jewel Monsters

Jewel Monsters turns a gem board into a weapon. You travel through a forest where monsters hide among the trees, and each one blocks the way until you defeat it. To hurt a monster, you match three or more gems of the same color as that monster. Matches in other colors do not count against it, so every move is a search for the right shade. Land enough matching hits and the monster is eliminated, letting you pass through to the next one.

The pressure comes from time. If you do not deal with a monster quickly enough, it strikes back and takes some of your health. Healing is built into the board: making a match of four or more gems causes a heart bonus to appear inside one of the gems, and collecting that heart restores part of your health. The board stands upright, so it suits a phone held normally, and it also runs on computers.

How to play Jewel Monsters

Objective

Defeat each monster on the forest path by matching gems of its color, and keep your health up with heart bonuses so you survive to the end.

Getting started

  1. Hold a phone upright when you start, because the gem board and the monster are laid out in portrait.
  2. Check the color of the first monster blocking the forest path, since only gems of that color will hurt it.
  3. Make matches of three or more gems in the monster's color to start draining it before it can attack.
  4. Keep matching that color until the monster is eliminated and you pass through to the next one.
  5. When your health drops, aim for a match of four or more to make a heart bonus, then collect the heart.

Tips

  • Matches in the wrong color do not damage the monster, so scan the board for its color before making any move.
  • Speed matters because a slow fight lets the monster attack you, so take a quick three-gem match over a long hunt for a perfect one.
  • A match of four or more does double duty: it hits the monster and spawns a heart bonus for later healing.
  • Collect heart bonuses when health is low rather than leaving them on the board, since they are the only healing described.

Jewel Monsters FAQ

How do you damage a monster in Jewel Monsters?

Match three or more gems that share the monster's color. Each matching group counts as an attack, and once you have matched enough of them the monster is eliminated and you move on through the forest.

Why does the monster attack you?

Monsters fight back when you take too long. If you do not match enough of their color fast enough, they strike and you lose health, so steady quick matches are safer than slow ones.

How can you heal during a fight?

Make a match of four or more gems. That creates a heart bonus inside one of the gems, and collecting the heart restores some of your health so you can keep pushing forward.

Should the phone be held upright for this game?

Yes. The board is designed in portrait, so holding the phone normally gives you the full view of the gems and the monster. It plays on computers too.
