About Word String

Word String builds a chain of words one link at a time. The puzzle hands you a single starting word, and your job is to guess the word that comes after it. A link only counts when the pair works together, and the chain keeps growing until the whole sequence is filled in.

Two rules decide what fits. The new word can join the previous one to form a compound word, the way Sun leads to Flower and Flower then leads to Pot, giving sunflower and flowerpot. Or it can finish a well-known phrase with the word before it, as Orange connects to Juice. Since every answer becomes the base for the next guess, one solved link points you toward the following one, and a stubborn link can hold up everything after it. The puzzles lean on vocabulary, logic and a little creativity rather than speed.

How to play Word String

Objective

Complete each chain by guessing every missing word, making sure each new word forms a compound or a well-known phrase with the one before it.

Controls

Desktop

  • Guess input: enter a word to add the next link to the chain

Getting started

  1. Look at the starting word at the head of the chain, because every later answer grows out of it.
  2. List words that could follow it as a compound, such as Sun plus Flower, or as the second half of a familiar phrase.
  3. Enter your best guess in the guess input; when it links correctly, the chain grows by one word.
  4. Treat the word you just solved as the new starting point and repeat the process until the full chain is complete.

Tips

  • Try both rules on every link: when no compound comes to mind, look for a common phrase instead, like Orange followed by Juice.
  • Remember the link always runs forward from the previous word, so in Sun, Flower, Pot the third word only has to fit Flower.
  • Say each candidate pair aloud as one word or phrase; compounds like sunflower and flowerpot tend to sound right the moment you hear them.
  • A word often has several partners, so if your first idea fails, run through other compounds and phrases that start with the same word.

Word String FAQ

What counts as a correct link in Word String?

A word is correct when it pairs with the previous word in one of two ways: together they form a compound word, or together they complete a well-known phrase. Sun to Flower is a compound link, while Orange to Juice is a phrase link.

How does a chain keep going?

Each answer you find becomes the base for the next guess. From Sun you reach Flower, and from Flower you reach Pot. You keep linking words this way, one guess at a time, until the whole chain is complete.

Does Word String need a big vocabulary?

A wide vocabulary helps, but logic and creativity matter too. Many words can pair up in more than one way, so the real work is finding the partner that fits this particular chain, whether through a compound or a familiar phrase.
