About CrossTile

CrossTile starts each level with a theme printed at the top of the screen and a crossword that has been broken into letter fragments and scattered across the board. Your task is to rebuild it. You drag fragments around and set them beside the pieces you think they continue; when a pairing is right, the pieces snap together on their own and from then on travel as a single group.

That snapping gives the puzzle its jigsaw feel, because the board steadily consolidates from many small bits into a few large chunks. Crossing words are the main clue, since a letter shared by two answers tells you how neighbouring pieces must line up. No timer runs and there are no lives to lose, so every level can be worked through at your own pace, with a hint on hand when you get stuck.

How to play CrossTile

Objective

Join every letter fragment into one finished crossword that fits the level's theme.

Controls

Desktop

  • Drag: move letter fragments around the board and set them beside matching pieces

Getting started

  1. Read the theme shown at the top of the level, since every answer in the finished crossword relates to it.
  2. Drag a letter fragment next to another piece you think it continues, and see whether the two snap together.
  3. Once pieces join, move the whole group as one and look for where its words cross other fragments.
  4. Use those intersections to place the remaining pieces, building outward from the largest connected group.
  5. Connect every last fragment to finish the level, and call on a hint if a piece refuses to fit anywhere.

Tips

  • Try placements freely: with no lives or timer, a wrong guess simply does not snap, so trying a fragment beside several pieces costs nothing.
  • Work outward from the biggest connected group, since it moves as one piece and its crossing words narrow down where the loose fragments go.
  • Keep the theme in mind when a fragment could fit in two places, and favour the word that matches it.
  • Save the hint for a real dead end; the letters shared at word intersections often reveal the fit if you study them again.

CrossTile FAQ

How do pieces connect in CrossTile?

Drag a letter fragment next to the piece it belongs with. If the connection is correct, the two snap together automatically and become one group that moves as a unit, so the board gets simpler as you go.

Is there a timer or a way to lose in CrossTile?

No timer runs and there are no lives, so the pace is entirely yours. You can take as long as you like studying the word intersections, and a hint is available whenever you stall on a level.

What role does the theme play in each level?

Each level begins by showing a theme across the top of the screen, and the words in the crossword belong to it. Reading the theme first helps you guess which words the fragments spell and how they should cross.
