About Hill Climber
Hill Climber gives you a small car, a road that rises and falls, and two controls: accelerate and brake. The aim of every run is distance. You keep driving until one of two things stops you, an accident or a fuel tank that has run dry, and the further along the road you got, the better the run went.
The physics are what make it tricky. With only two inputs, everything comes down to timing, and the hills are where timing matters most, because the car reacts to every press of the gas or brake as the ground changes shape beneath it. The game keeps the setup the same on every device: the arrow keys work both pedals on a computer, and on a phone you tap on-screen paddles that do the same job.

How to play Hill Climber
Objective
Drive as far as possible on each run, balancing acceleration and braking over the hills so you avoid an accident and keep fuel in the tank.
Controls
Desktop
- Arrow keys: accelerate and brake
Mobile
- Tap the paddles: accelerate and brake
Getting started
- Start a run and press the accelerate arrow key, or tap the accelerator paddle on a phone, to get the car rolling.
- Watch the road ahead for the next hill and build enough speed on the flat to carry you up it.
- On slopes, switch between accelerating and braking in short presses instead of holding one down the whole way.
- Use the brake on the way down a hill to keep the car under control before the next rise.
- Keep an eye on the fuel, since an empty tank ends the run just as surely as an accident does.
Tips
- Because a run ends only through an accident or empty fuel, careful driving that avoids crashes will usually take you further than flat-out speed.
- Treat the brake as a balance tool rather than just a way to stop, especially when the car crests a hill.
- Fuel is one of only two things that end a run, so avoid wasting it rolling back and forth on a climb you cannot make.
- On a phone, keep a thumb near each paddle so you can switch between gas and brake quickly as the terrain changes.

Hill Climber FAQ
How does a run end in Hill Climber?
In one of two ways: the car has an accident, or the fuel runs out. Until then you keep driving, and the goal is simply to get as far along the road as possible before either one happens.
Does Hill Climber work on mobile?
Yes. On a phone you tap the on-screen paddles to accelerate and brake. On a computer the arrow keys do the same job, so it is the same two actions whichever device you pick.
Why is Hill Climber hard with only two controls?
Because the car follows physics and the terrain keeps changing. Judging the moment to press the gas or the brake, especially on hills, is the whole skill, and getting that balance wrong is what leads to accidents.
