About Gelatino

Gelatino puts a purple popsicle with a pink tip on a long pink road seen from above, its wooden stick dripping as it goes. The road scrolls past with a dashed white center line and blue verges dotted with pink rocks and cacti, while angry spiky sun faces glare from both edges: the blazing heat the popsicle has to stay away from. A single counter, shown at the top of the screen and again just under the popsicle, ticks upward as the run continues.

The route zigzags, so the popsicle has to swing from side to side to stay on the road and slip past traps, and ice cubes along the way keep it cool for longer. A run ends on a result card that shows your final count with three buttons: RETRY, REWARD and MENU. The title screen is just as sparse, with the GELATINO logo, a big PLAY button, a music toggle in the corner and a counter at the bottom that reads 0 on a first visit.

How to play Gelatino

Objective

Keep the popsicle going down the pink road as long as you can, swinging past traps and the spiky sun faces and grabbing ice cubes, to push the counter higher.

Controls

Desktop

  • Click PLAY: start a run

Mobile

  • Tap PLAY: start a run

Getting started

  1. Press the big PLAY button under the GELATINO logo; the music-note button in the top-left corner switches the soundtrack on or off.
  2. The run starts at once, with the popsicle near the bottom of a pink road and the counter at the top beginning at 1.
  3. Watch both edges of the road, where the spiky sun faces wait, and keep the popsicle away from them as the road scrolls.
  4. Grab ice cubes when they show up on the road, since they are what keeps the popsicle from melting before the run is over.
  5. When the run ends, a card shows your count with RETRY to go again, REWARD in the middle and MENU to go back to the title.

Tips

  • The counter appears twice, at the top of the screen and right under the popsicle, so you can follow your score without taking your eyes off the road.
  • The sun faces hug the outer edges of the road, so the dashed center line is the safest place to swing back to between turns.
  • On a computer the game fills only a tall column in the middle of the screen, while a phone held upright shows it at full size.
  • The result card puts REWARD between RETRY and MENU; it is not explained on the card, so check it before pressing RETRY if you want to see what it adds.

Gelatino FAQ

What does the number on the Gelatino screen count?

It is your run counter. It starts at 1 when the popsicle sets off and climbs steadily as the road scrolls, shown both at the top of the screen and under the popsicle. The result card repeats your final number when the run ends.

What are the sun faces in Gelatino?

They are the heat. The angry spiky suns sit along the edges of the road, and running into heat is what melts the popsicle, so keep clear of them while picking up the ice cubes that let the run last longer.

Is Gelatino better on a phone held upright?

Yes, the game is a tall portrait layout, so an upright phone shows it full size. On a computer it appears as a narrow column in the middle of the screen. Tap PLAY on the title screen and the run starts straight away.
