About FlappyBall

FlappyBall is a one-tap arcade game with a ball in the starring role. The ball wants to drop, and each tap on the screen makes it flap upward, so staying airborne is a constant rhythm of taps. Ahead of you lies a run of pipes, and the only way forward is through the narrow spaces between them.

The run never ends on its own. Sets of pipes keep coming, and a flight lasts until the ball hits an obstacle, so the question each time is simply how far you can get. Distance turns into score, and beating your best is the whole goal. The look is deliberately retro, with 8-bit style graphics, and catchy sound effects with a background tune keep the pace. The portrait screen fits a phone held upright.

How to play FlappyBall

Objective

Tap to keep the ball flapping through the gaps between pipes and fly as far as you can without hitting an obstacle, chasing a higher score each run.

Controls

Mobile

  • Tap: make the ball flap and rise

Getting started

  1. Hold the phone upright, since FlappyBall uses a portrait screen, or open it on a computer.
  2. Start a run and tap the screen to make the ball flap; each tap lifts it higher.
  3. Line the ball up with the first gap between pipes and tap gently to pass through without hitting either side.
  4. Keep a steady rhythm of taps as more pipes arrive, aiming to beat your previous score on every attempt.

Tips

  • Tap in small, regular bursts. Every tap lifts the ball, so too many in a row send it up into the top pipe.
  • Look one gap ahead. The pipes keep coming in endless sets, and lining up early for the next opening is easier than correcting late.
  • Keep the sound on; the effects and background tune help you settle into a steady flapping rhythm during long runs.
