About 1942 Pacific Front

1942 Pacific Front continues the war after 1941 Frozen Front, moving the fighting to the Pacific in 1942 with a strong focus on naval combat. You can lead the American army through its campaign or take command of the Japanese side instead. Either way, the job is to send troops to the front line and take control of the battlefield one engagement at a time.

The unit list covers land, sea and air. Infantry and tanks take out enemy positions, artillery can be placed in rough terrain, warplanes and bomber wings strike hostile headquarters, and battleships and submarines fight at sea with torpedoes and bombs. Battles take place across beaches, lagoons and straits, and ambushes and surprise submarine attacks are part of the toolkit. Fights play out turn by turn, with resources to manage between moves. The theme is wartime combat, shown on a wide screen on computers and phones.

How to play 1942 Pacific Front

Objective

Win the Pacific battles for your chosen side by combining infantry, tanks, artillery, warplanes, battleships and submarines to defeat the enemy forces.

Getting started

  1. Turn a phone sideways before you begin; the Pacific battle maps use a landscape screen on every device.
  2. Choose your side: the American campaign, or the Japanese forces and the mission they are given.
  3. Look over the battlefield first, noting beaches, lagoons, straits and rough terrain before moving any units.
  4. Use your turns to advance tanks and infantry on enemy positions and to emplace artillery where the ground is rough.
  5. Bring in warplanes, battleships and submarines to strike from the air and the sea, aiming to knock out enemy headquarters.

Tips

  • Use submarines for surprise. The game highlights submarine attacks as a way to catch the enemy off guard, so save one for a moment when it can swing a fight.
  • Send bomber wings at headquarters while tanks and infantry deal with positions on the ground; each branch has a job it is built for.
  • Rough terrain is where artillery is meant to go, so emplace your guns there and let infantry and tanks do the advancing.
  • Plan around the water. Beaches, lagoons and straits all need clearing, and naval units armed with torpedoes are made for exactly that kind of fight.
