About The Last Company
The Last Company is a fantasy strategy RPG, shown in 3D, with one measure of success: how long your band of heroes holds out. You recruit fighters, shape them into a party and lead them from battle to battle, and the story of each campaign is simply how long the company lasts.
Every decision comes before the fighting. In the village you visit buildings, choose equipment and manage your roster, then pick which battle to take next. Formation is the final step, with each hero placed on a square of a 3x3 grid. Once combat starts it runs automatically, and you can only pause it, resume it or change its speed. Three pressures shape every choice: gold stays scarce, enemies get tougher as the campaign goes on, and a hero who dies never comes back.

How to play The Last Company
Objective
Keep your company alive through as many battles as possible by recruiting heroes, equipping them in the village and placing them well on the 3x3 grid before each automatic fight.
Controls
Desktop
- Left mouse button: pick buildings, heroes, gear and menu choices
- Click and drag: rotate the view in the village or a character preview
- Mouse wheel: zoom in or out in the village or a character preview
- Hero portrait: drag it onto the 3x3 grid, or click it and then a square
- On-screen battle buttons: pause, resume or change the battle speed
- Esc: close a menu or leave a building for the village
Getting started
- Recruit your first heroes and form them into a party, spending carefully because gold is scarce throughout the game.
- Click around the village to open buildings and equip your heroes, dragging to rotate the view and scrolling the wheel to zoom.
- Choose the next battle for your company, weighing it against how well equipped your party is right now.
- Place each hero on the 3x3 grid by dragging their portrait onto a square, or by clicking the portrait and then the square.
- Let the automatic battle play out, pausing or changing its speed with the on-screen buttons, and press Esc to back out of menus afterwards.
Tips
- Treat every hero as irreplaceable, since the fallen never return; a fight that looks winnable but risky can still cost you a party member permanently.
- Spend most of your thinking on the 3x3 formation, because once combat starts you cannot move or attack, so placement is your final say.
- Hold some gold back instead of spending it all early, as gold stays scarce for the whole campaign while enemies keep getting tougher.
- Pause a battle with the on-screen buttons to see which positions take the worst of it, then rearrange the grid before the following fight.

The Last Company FAQ
Do you control heroes during fights in The Last Company?
No. Battles are fully automatic, so you never move a hero or order an attack yourself. Your influence comes from village preparation and from the square each hero gets on the 3x3 grid. During combat you can only pause, resume or change the speed.
Do fallen heroes ever come back?
They do not. In The Last Company a hero who dies is lost permanently, which is why choosing battles and positions matters so much. With gold scarce and enemies getting stronger, every loss leaves the company weaker.
How do you place heroes on the battle grid?
Drag a hero's portrait onto a square of the 3x3 grid, or click the portrait first and then click the square you want. Placement happens before each battle and is the last decision you make before the fight runs on its own.
What can you do in the village?
The village is where preparation happens. You open buildings, pick out equipment and look after the roster, rotating the view by clicking and dragging and zooming with the mouse wheel. Press Esc to close a menu or step out of a building back to the village.
