About Pool: 8 Ball Mania

Pool: 8 Ball Mania sets up a standard eight-ball table and lets you play it against the computer, or pass the turn back and forth with a friend in local two-player play. Every shot starts with positioning the cue, and an aiming aid helps you line up exactly where the cue ball should travel before you strike it.

The rules are the familiar ones. Whichever type of ball drops first, solids or stripes, becomes your group, and you need to pot every ball in that group before finishing with the black. Potting the wrong ball or sinking the black too early turns the match against you, so each shot is as much about setting up the next one as about the ball in front of you. Realistic ball physics means angles and rebounds behave much as they would on a real table, which rewards careful positioning.

How to play Pool: 8 Ball Mania

Objective

Pot every ball in your assigned group, solids or stripes, and then sink the black ball to win the match before your opponent does.

Getting started

  1. Decide on an opponent: the computer, or a friend taking turns with you in local two-player play.
  2. Set the cue behind the cue ball and let the aiming help guide the line of your first shot.
  3. Strike the cue ball; whichever type you pot first, solids or stripes, becomes your group for the match.
  4. Keep potting the balls of your group while avoiding your opponent's balls and the black.
  5. Once your whole group is cleared, line up the black ball and pot it to win.

Tips

  • Because your group is set by the first ball you pot, aim the early shots at whichever type offers easier follow-up chances.
  • Never let the black drop before your group is cleared, since sinking it too early turns the match against you.
  • Use the aiming help on every shot, not only long ones, because potting the wrong ball also costs you and a small misjudgment adds up.

Pool: 8 Ball Mania FAQ

Is there a two-player mode in Pool: 8 Ball Mania?

Yes. Besides the computer-controlled opponent, there is a local two-player mode, so you and a friend can take turns at the same table and play a full match under standard eight-ball rules.

How are solids and stripes decided in Pool: 8 Ball Mania?

The first ball you pot decides it. If it is a solid, solids become your group; if it is a stripe, you play stripes. Clear your whole group, then pot the black to win.

What happens if the black ball goes in early?

Sinking the black before your group is cleared, or potting the wrong ball, turns the match against you. The black is meant to be the final shot, after every ball of your group has dropped.
