About Grimace Penalty

Grimace Penalty strips soccer down to the penalty spot. You line up shot after shot against a Grimace standing in goal, and each kick is a small duel of timing and aim. The keeper does not stand still. It moves around the goal, so a spot that is wide open one moment can be covered the next, and a well-struck shot at the wrong time still gets stopped.

That movement is the whole puzzle. To score, you need to pick the right place in the goal and release the shot at the right moment, ideally when the keeper is heading the other way. The margin for error is fixed: miss three times and the game is over, so every attempt carries weight. The goal is framed in portrait for an upright phone, and it also plays on a computer.

How to play Grimace Penalty

Objective

Score as many penalty goals as you can against the moving Grimace keeper, timing and aiming each shot, before three misses end the game.

Getting started

  1. Hold the phone upright or use a computer; the goal is framed in portrait.
  2. Watch the Grimace in goal for a moment to see how it moves around before you shoot.
  3. Pick the spot in the goal you want to hit, ideally away from where the keeper is heading.
  4. Time the shot for the moment that spot is open, then take the kick.
  5. Keep shooting and count your misses, since the third miss ends the game.

Tips

  • Before each kick, watch the keeper's movement long enough to see where the gaps open; timing matters as much as aim here.
  • With only three misses allowed, a safe shot into an open area beats a risky one aimed where the keeper might return.
  • After a miss, slow down rather than speeding up; the limit is three misses in total, so one bad kick is not the end.

Grimace Penalty FAQ

How many misses are allowed in Grimace Penalty?

Three. Once you miss three goals the game is over, so each shot should be timed and aimed with care rather than fired off in a hurry.

How do you score against the keeper?

Pick an open spot and release the kick at the right moment. The Grimace keeper moves around the goal, so speed and accuracy both count, and the kick should go in while your target area is clear.

Which way should you hold your phone?

Upright. Grimace Penalty is designed in portrait, and holding the phone vertically shows the goal and the keeper the way they are framed. Computers work too.
