About 3D Chess - Arcane Edition

3D Chess - Arcane Edition is standard chess on a 3D board set in a fairytale garden, with hand-crafted copper and gold pieces. Selecting a piece lights up glowing dots on every square it can legally reach, captures happen by moving onto an enemy's square, and the game is won by checkmating the opposing king. You can turn the camera around the board and zoom in for a closer look at any position.

Solo games pit you against a strong chess engine set to Easy, Medium or Hard, and the level can be changed before or during a game from the gear-icon settings, where move hints and audio are also switched. A lightbulb button offers up to three hints per game, each highlighting the engine's recommended move, with a short cooldown between them. For a human opponent, Play a Friend opens a private room with a shareable code. No account is needed, rooms vanish once everyone leaves, and the game comes in 21 languages.

How to play 3D Chess - Arcane Edition

Objective

Checkmate the opponent's king, whether you face the computer on Easy, Medium or Hard or a friend in a private room.

Controls

Desktop

  • Click a piece: select it and show its legal moves
  • Click a highlighted square: play the move
  • Drag: rotate the camera around the board
  • Scroll: zoom in or out
  • Gear icon: open settings for difficulty, move hints and sound
  • Lightbulb button: reveal the engine's recommended move

Mobile

  • Tap a piece: select it
  • Tap a highlighted square: complete the move
  • Drag a piece: move it directly on the board
  • Drag the board: turn the camera
  • Pinch: zoom in or out

Getting started

  1. Pick a name on the landing screen, then start a solo game or choose Play a Friend to open a private room.
  2. For a solo game, open Settings with the gear icon and set the computer opponent to Easy, Medium or Hard.
  3. Select a piece by tapping or clicking it; glowing dots mark every square it can legally move to.
  4. Tap or click one of the highlighted squares to make the move, capturing an enemy piece by landing on its square.
  5. Drag to spin the camera and pinch or scroll to zoom whenever part of the board is hard to read.

Tips

  • Hints are capped at three per game with a cooldown between them, so save the lightbulb for positions where you genuinely cannot find a move.
  • Difficulty can be changed during a solo game, so drop to Easy to explore an idea and raise it to Hard once you feel comfortable.
  • Keep move hints switched on in Settings while learning, then turn them off for a sterner test once the piece movements feel natural.
  • Friend rooms disappear once everyone leaves, so finish a game in one sitting, because there is no saved history to come back to.

3D Chess - Arcane Edition FAQ

How do you play a friend in 3D Chess - Arcane Edition?

Choose Play a Friend from the landing screen, which sets up a private room with a code you can send. Your friend opens the link and takes the other colour. The room is temporary and disappears along with its history once both of you leave.

Do you need an account to play?

No. There is no login; you just choose a name and start playing. Because nothing is stored, multiplayer rooms vanish for good when everyone has left, so an abandoned game cannot be reopened later.

How do hints work in this chess game?

The lightbulb button highlights the engine's recommended move. You get up to three each game, with a short wait before the next one is ready, and in solo games each hint is a rewarded feature unlocked by watching a short ad.

Does 3D Chess - Arcane Edition work on phones?

Yes. Pieces can be tapped or dragged, pinching zooms and dragging the board turns the camera. The framing adapts to phone screens, and holding the phone upright switches the game into a landscape layout.
