About 2048
2048 is a number puzzle built around a single target: the 2048 tile. Every move slides the tiles on the board in one direction, and when two tiles carrying the same number meet, they join into one tile holding their sum. Two 2s become a 4, two 4s become an 8, and the doubling keeps going all the way up.
The board is compact, and each slide leaves it a little fuller, so the real puzzle is keeping enough room to work with. Large numbers are built only from smaller equal pairs, which means you need to keep matching values near each other instead of scattering them across the grid. Reaching 2048 takes ten doublings starting from a 2. The layout is tall, suited to a phone held upright, and it works on a computer as well.

- Arrow keys: slide the tiles up, down, left or right
Getting started
- Look at the starting tiles and pick a direction; the arrow keys move the whole board that way.
- Watch for two tiles with the same number lined up, and slide so they meet and combine.
- Choose one corner to collect your biggest tile in, and favor moves that keep it there.
- Build each new number next to the one it will join, such as a 32 beside another 32.
- Keep going until two 1024 tiles meet and form the 2048 tile.
Tips
- Big tiles are made only from equal pairs, so keep them in one area, ideally a corner, where the matching value can reach them.
- Since every slide fills the board a little more, avoid moves that merge nothing unless there is no alternative.
- Think two moves ahead: a slide that creates one merge now can line up a second pair for the move after it.
- Count backward from 2048: you need two 1024 tiles, which need four 512s, so plan room for that chain before you get close.
