About Space Rovers

Space Rovers sends you to Mars with a box of parts instead of a ready-made vehicle. It is a physics-based builder and delivery game: you put a rover together from a wide choice of wheels and blocks, load it up and drive it across harsh Martian ground to deliver goods.

Construction leaves the shape and scale completely up to you. A small, compact scout and a huge cargo hauler are equally valid answers, and no two machines come out the same. Driving itself uses only two directions, forward and backward, so it is the physics of your design that decide whether the cargo makes it across the terrain. When a delivery goes badly, the build is the first thing to rethink, and each new design is a fresh attempt at the same engineering puzzle.

How to play Space Rovers

Objective

Design a rover from wheels and blocks that can handle the Martian terrain, then drive it to carry goods across the landscape.

Controls

Desktop

  • Up Arrow or Right Arrow: move forward
  • Down Arrow or Left Arrow: move backwards

Mobile

  • Left pedal: move forward
  • Right pedal: move backwards

Getting started

  1. Start in the builder and browse the wheels and blocks on offer, since every rover is assembled from those two kinds of part.
  2. Decide whether you want a compact scout or a massive cargo hauler, then fit the parts together into a design of your own.
  3. Drive out onto the Martian landscape with the Up or Right arrow, and back up with the Down or Left arrow.
  4. On a phone, the left pedal drives forward and the right pedal reverses, so note that layout before the first delivery.
  5. Haul the goods across the terrain, and rethink the design if the rover struggles on the rough ground.

Tips

  • Remember that Right Arrow moves forward and Left Arrow moves backwards, alongside Up and Down, so either pair of keys does the same job.
  • Try more than one combination of wheels and blocks, because the game runs on physics and rovers built from different parts will behave differently.
  • Back up briefly to reposition on rough ground before trying a difficult stretch again, rather than pushing forward into the same spot.
  • Match the size of the build to the job: compact designs and massive haulers are both valid, so bigger is not automatically better.

Space Rovers FAQ

What are rovers made from in Space Rovers?

Wheels and blocks. You pick from a wide selection of both and assemble them into a rover of your own design, from a compact scout to a massive cargo hauler, and the physics decide how well it copes with Mars.

Which keys drive the rover?

Up Arrow or Right Arrow moves the rover forward, and Down Arrow or Left Arrow moves it backwards. Only those two directions are used, so the rover's design matters as much as your driving.

Can Space Rovers be played on a phone?

Yes. Mobile play uses two pedals: the left pedal moves the rover forward and the right pedal moves it backwards. The goal is the same as on a computer, building a rover and hauling cargo across Mars.

What is the goal on Mars?

Transport goods across the Martian landscape using a rover you designed. Good engineering keeps the vehicle and its cargo moving over the terrain, so each delivery is really a test of your build.
